Why convert PDF to PNG?

The same idea as JPG, but for pages full of text or diagrams, where PNG keeps the lettering sharp instead of blurring it.

What is PDF?

PDF grew out of Adobe Camelot project and became an open ISO standard in 2008. Its whole purpose is that a document looks the same on every screen and every printer, which it achieves by freezing the layout and embedding the fonts. That strength is also its limitation: a PDF describes where marks sit on a page, not what a paragraph is, so editing one means rebuilding it.

What is PNG?

PNG compresses without throwing anything away and supports transparency. Sharp edges and lettering stay crisp, at the cost of a larger file than JPG.

What changes when you convert PDF to PNG?

Each page becomes a picture. The words stop being words - they cannot be searched, selected or edited afterwards, and the page cannot be reflowed. Choose PNG for pages of text or diagrams, where JPG leaves visible haze around the lettering.

How long does it take?

Most documents finish in a few seconds. Conversion runs on our server rather than in your browser, so the slow part is usually the upload. Long reports and image-heavy files take proportionally longer.

What happens to my files?

Your file is uploaded to our server because the conversion runs there. A cleanup task runs every hour and deletes anything older than an hour, so nothing you upload survives more than about two hours. We do not open your files, we do not keep copies, and no account is needed to use the converter.
