Sharing a LibreOffice document with the wider world, where ODT support is uneven and PDF is universal.
ODT is the text half of OpenDocument, an open standard adopted by many governments precisely because no single vendor controls it. It is the native format of LibreOffice and OpenOffice, and technically very close to DOCX: a ZIP of XML describing structured text.
PDF grew out of Adobe Camelot project and became an open ISO standard in 2008. Its whole purpose is that a document looks the same on every screen and every printer, which it achieves by freezing the layout and embedding the fonts. That strength is also its limitation: a PDF describes where marks sit on a page, not what a paragraph is, so editing one means rebuilding it.

Nothing is lost, but the result becomes fixed. Fonts and layout are embedded, so the document prints identically anywhere - and editing it afterwards means converting it back first. Text stays selectable and searchable unless the source was already a picture.
Most documents finish in a few seconds. Conversion runs on our server rather than in your browser, so the slow part is usually the upload. Long reports and image-heavy files take proportionally longer.
Your file is uploaded to our server because the conversion runs there. A cleanup task runs every hour and deletes anything older than an hour, so nothing you upload survives more than about two hours. We do not open your files, we do not keep copies, and no account is needed to use the converter.
